Electrician born 1920 in Altensteig. HJ member 1932-1938. NSDAP member since 1938. RAD service 1938. Allgemeine SS member 1937-1939. He volunteered the Waffen-SS in Aug.39. Promotions: 1.2.41 to SS-Sturmmann, 1.5.41 to SS-Unterscharführer, 1.4.43 to Oberscharführer. A lot of weapon training entered including flamethrower and training on SPW Spähwagen scout car. Service: Aug.39-Feb.41with 1st SS Panzer Division "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler" LSSAH active in the campaign in France; Feb.41-Jun.44 SS leader schooling/training at the SS-Unteroffizierschule in Lauenburg; Jun.-Sep.44 with SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Ausbildungs-Regiment based in Kienschlag Böhmen; from 1.9.44 onwards with 6./SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment “Schill”. The SS-Kampfgruppe Schill was formed in August 1944 from SS-Panzer Grenadier Schule in Kienschlag and SS-Panzergrenadier-Ausbildungs und Ersatz Bataillon 10 in Brno to fight the uprising in Slovakia. After its successful efforts there it was formed into SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment Schill in December. It was absorbed by 32. SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division “30 Januar” in February 1945 active at the Oder front and later parts of it in the battle of Berlin.
