He served: Oct.-Dec.40 for basic military training with the 7.Schiffs-Stamm-Abteilung in Stralsund; Dec.40-Jun.41 on board of the mine sweeper M2 of the 2.Minensuch-Flottille; Jun.-Nov.41 officer candidate and ship artillery schooling in Flensburg-Mürwick and Sassnitz; examined for flying personnel; Dec.41-Mar.42 schooling at Luftnachrichtenschule (See) in Dievenow Poland; Mar.-Apr.42 with coastal recco. squadron 2./Küstenfliegergruppe 406 with Blohm & Voss BV138 „flying boats“ based in Trondheim; Apr.-May 42 Seefahrtschule der Luftwaffe Lobbe on the island Rügen; Jun.42-Mar.43 Fliegerwaffenschule See and Grosse Kampffliegerschule in Parow; Mar.-Apr.43 Flieger-Ergänzungs-Gruppe See in Kamp; from May 43 onwards as observer with sea recco. squadron 1./Seeaufklärungsgruppe 126 with Arado Ar196 sea planes 1943-44 home based in Skaramangas Greece.
