Backer born 1914 in Alt Tramm Pommern (Stramnica Poland) living in Lochtum (Harz). He served Jan.45 with Flieger-Ersatz-Bataillon XVII in Seyring Austria. Examinated Feb.45 at the Hauptuntersuchungsstelle der Fallschirm-Armee (stamps page 4 and 6) if he could become a Fallschirmjäger and served from 1.3.45 onwards with 18./Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 37 of the 11. Fallschirmjäger-Division (11th Parachute Division). The division was formed in March 1945 near Linz Austria, out of a disparate collection of Luftwaffe units including aircrew from Jagdgeschwader 101. It contained the 37th, 38th and 39th Fallschirmjäger Regiments, and the 11th Fallschirmjäger Artillery Regiment. The division did not manage to form fully before the end of the war, and only isolated kampfgruppen saw combat.
