He served 1941 with 1./Fla-Bataillon(mot)46, motorized anti aircraft unit of the 6.Infanterie-Division active in Middle Russia (Witebsk, Kalinin, Rshew); 1943 with 10.(Fla.)/Panzergrenadier-Regiment 110 of the 11.Panzer-Division active in Southern Russia (Kalmückensteppe, Don, Donez, Charkow, Kursk). He got wounded for the first time on 8.1.43 at Stalingrad and was hospitalized in field hospital Kriegslazarett-Abteilung 529 in the Charkow area. Short after his recovery leave back at the front he was KIA 1943 just before his 24th birthday. He served in Poland, France, Greece and Russia according to his death notification.
