Metal worker born 1914 in Emmerich. He served 1941-1943 with Schnelle-Abteilung 293 (1943 renamed Panzerjäger-Abteilung 293) fast recco. and tank destroyers unit of the 293.Infanterie-Division. Service till Aug.43 in middle Russia (Pinsk, Gomel, Kiew, Brjansk, Kursk, Jelez, Mzensk, Orel, Bolchow, Brjansk). During fierce battles in Southern Russia (Charkow, Krementschug, Uman) Aug.-Nov.43 the whole division (now decimated to a battle group) was finally disbanded in Nov.43. He served 1944 with Panzer-Zerstörungs-Kompanie 483, a small independent and fast anti tank unit (equipped with the Panzerschreck Ofenrohre 88mm anti tank rockets) formed Dec.43 and active at the Eastern Front under command of Army Group South (Heeresgruppe Süd). He got wounded for the first time (by shrapnel) on 11.6.44 and was hospitalized till 9.8.44; wounded for the second time (shrapnel left leg) on 13.9.44 but not hospitalized; wounded for the third time (shrapnel again) on 21.9.44 and hospitalized in Breslau (transport by hospital train to) Arnsdorf and Dresden till Jan.45. On his right hand a finger was amputated as listed on the certificate of discharge. Till the end of the war he served for recovery with his replacements unit Infanterie-Panzerjäger-E.u.A.-Kompanie 17 based in Nürnberg.
