He served: Nov.37-Sep.38 with Panzer-Abwehr-Abteilung 30 in Lübeck; Oct.38-May 40 with Wehrbezirkskommando Lübeck; May-Sep.40 with Panzerjäger-Ersatz-Kompanie 58 based in Schleswig and later Fredericia Denmark; Sep.40-Mar.41 with Panzerjäger-Ersatz-Abteilung 20 in Hamburg-Harburg, Jan.41 following a course at the Panzer-Lehr-Regiment for equipment NCO and shooting instructor; Mar.-Dec.41 with Panzerjäger-Abteilung 240 of the 170.Infanterie-Division based in Rumania (Ploesti) and active in Southern Russia (Pruth, Jassy, Odessa, Berislaw, Perekop, Krim); wounded 26.10.41 by shrapnell in his right shoulder; till May 42 for recovery with Panzerjäger-Ersatz-Abteilung 20 in Hamburg-Harburg; Jul.42-Oct.43 with Panzerjäger-Abteilung 240, Radfahr-Abteilung 240 and Aufklärungs-Abteilung 240 of the 170.Infanterie-Division now active in Northern and Russia (Leningrad, Narwa); Oct.43-Mar.44 with Divisions-Füssilier-Bataillon 170 also of the 170.Infanterie-Division active in Middle Russia (Narwa).
