Born 1920 in Wattenscheid. He volunteered the Infantry in 1938. He served Apr.-Oct.38 with the RAD in Bochum; Nov.38 with 12.(MG)/Infanterie-Regiment 64 based in Soest. 1940 he sarted his medical study at the university in Bonn where he studied till 1944 to become a doctor in the army. During that period he was also attached to army units and also served with some medical units in the field; Jan.-Mar.40 with Heeres-Sanitäts-Staffel in Bonn; Mar.-May 1940 with Sanitäts-Ersatz-Abteilung 6 in Riesenburg; May 40-Apr.41 with 1./Sanitäts-Kompanie 26 of the 26.Infanterie-Division active in France (Somme,Aisne, Champagne) and occupation force France; Apr.41 again with Sanitäts-Ersatz-Abteilung 6; May 41-Aug.43 with Studentenkompanie Heeres-Sanitäts-Staffel Bonn; Sep.43-Mar.44 with 3./Studenten-Abteilung (med.) in Bonn; Apr.-Nov.44 with 3./Sanitäts-Offizier-Ergänzungs-Abteilung Bonn; Nov.44-Jan.45 with 3./Sanitäts-Offizier-Ergänzungs-Abteilung München; during this time (as entered on battle page Wehrpass) he served Sep.-Oct.44 at the Westwall for medical assistance of fortress builders and Hitler youth; from 26.4.45 onwards with military hospital Reservelazarett Tubring Teillazarett. He was on 1.7.45 promoted to Assistent-Arzt der Reserve while serving with Hospital #2007. He was Sep-Nov.43 hospitalized for diphtheria in Reservelazarett Menden.
