After a short training period at some Territorial Army units in Halberstad and Hildesheim, he served 1942-44 with Feldzeug-Bataillon 18, an Army technical equipment supply unit active in Norway. End 1944 he was transferred to Feldzeug-Kompanie 55 of Heeresgruppe Nord based in Riga (Latvia), and served till Jul.45 with Armee-Gerätepark 678 active in Northern Norway and Lapland.
