Entitled to: Krim Shield (2.12.42), Winter War Medal (12.6.44) and War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords (30.1.45).
Shoemaker born 1913 in Grafschaft Hoya near Hannover. He served: 1940 till 1945 Infanterie-Regiment 16 (renamed 1942 Grenadier-Regiment 16) of the 22.Luftlande-Infanterie-Division; 1940 active in Holland, 1941-1942 active in Soutern Russia (Rumania, Ukrain, Bereslaw, Perekop, Krim, Sewastopol), 1942 Sewestopol, 1942-1944 in Greece and based on Crete, 1944-45 withdrawel fights from Crete to Serbia and Croatia. Rifle issued in Jun.44 and another in Mar.45. He got wounded 9.4.45 by shrapnel and died 6 days later in field hospital Feldlazarett 54 on 15.4.45 at 16.30 pm. The Feldlazarett 54 was the field hospital of the 1.Volks-Gebirgs-Division. He is probably still buried in his field grave in Slavonski Brod Croatia as he was not moved to a war cemetery after 1945.
