Born 1920 in Kolberg. RAD service Dec.38-Dec.39 while Oct.-Dec.39 active as a Truppführer, troop leader in the campaign in Poland working with army construction unit Bau-Bataillon 35. He served: Jan.40 with anti tank unit Panzer-Abwehr-Ersatz-Abteilung 2 in his hometown Kolberg; Mar.40-May 42 with Panzer-Abwehr-Abteilung 175 (Apr.40 renamed Panzerjäger-Abteilung 175) of the 75.Infanterie-Division, 1940 active in France (Maginot line, Epinal) and occupation force Poland, 1941-42 in southern Russia (Cholm, Kiew, Belgorod). He was KIA in Grafowka Russia on 22.3.42. Not moved to a war cemetery after WW2, so probably still buried in his field grave.

Gerhard Raatz was not recovered during our re-interment activities. The planned transfer to the collective cemetery in Kursk – Besedino was, therefore, unfortunately not possible. His name will be recorded in the cemetery’s memorial book.
