Born 1895 in Breslau. WW1 combatant. Military service since 1915. Released 15.12.1918 as Musketier by Infanterie-Regiment 228 Torgau. German Railways mechanic. He was not called-up for military service during WW2 because he was needed at the german railways in Breslau. He died 22.9.44 on the steam vessel „Ingrid Traber“ during an enemy attack. He died in the chaotic evacuation of East Prussia.
From the Kriegstagebuch Kommandant Gotenhafen:
The Irmgard Traber departed from Reval-Pillau Eastern Prussia for evacuations. With on board 287 soldiers, 131 refugees and 1200T refugee luggage. The engine of the ship was damaged during the voyage when it was hit by a bomb. The ship arrived in Gotenhafen on 26.9.44.
