2) WW2 ID card POW camp Ziegenhain, 26.5.43. Issued/signed by the commander of the POW camp, Oberst. Rare.

Butcher born 1895 in Alsfeld. WW1 service starting 1915 with Infanterie-Regiment 116 and from Aug.1915 onwards at the front with Infanterie-Regiment 129 and Infanterie-Regiment 61. Battles in Flandern and Artois, Siegfried Line, Armentiers. Wounded twice, second time Apr.1918 in Estaires France shot by Infantry in his right arm. Discharged Nov.1918. Awarded with the WW1 Iron Cross 2nd Class (1917) and Hessian Bravory Medal (1918). In WW2 he served as a civil POW guard with a POW labour coy (Arbeitskommando 1883) in Lehrbach. The unit was part of POW camp „Kriegsgefangenen Mannschafts-Stammlager IXA“ in Ziegenhain-Kassel. As stated on his special ID he was a „Hilfswachmann“ non military civil guard but was allowed to use weapons during his guarding service.
