He served Nov.38-Nov.42 with Infanterie-Regiment 19 “List” (Oct.42 renamed Grenadier-Regiment 19 “List”) of the 7.Infanterie-Division Sep.39 active in Slovakia and Poland, Sep.39-May 40 based in the Lower Rhine area, from May 40 onwards active in France (Holland, Belgium, Somme, Loire, occupation force Northern France), from May. 41 onwards active in Middle Russia (Minsk, Smolensk, Wjasma, Moscow, Moshaisk, Gshatsk). In Nov.41 he followed a gas protection course in Lille France.
