Gardener born 1912 in Gelschenkirchen. He served 1942-1944 with Artillerie-Regiment 227 of the 227.Infanterie-Division active in Northern Russia (Wolchow, Leningrad, Narwa, Livland, Kurland). He got wounded for the first time in May 43, had a broken foot in Jan.44, got wounded for the second time in Aug.44 (shrapnel right arm, not hospitalized). He got wounded or the third time in Nov.44 (shrapnel head) and was hospitalized in Germany till Feb.45. After recovery he served till the end of the war with his replacement unit leichte Artillerie-E.u.A.-Abteilung 26 in Rheine. Last unit mentioned in the pass (stamp page 20) is from Apr.45 and indicates he served (?) some days with Luftwaffe-Berge-Bataillon IV (Luftwaffe unit in Germany or the recovery of crashed planes).
