He served: Aug.-Sep.39 with Artillerie-Ersatz-Batterie 1/169 in Soest Westphalia; Apr.-Aug.40 with Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 236 in Marienwerder where he also was trained with anti tank gun 3.7cm and Panzerbüchse 39 anti tank rifle; Aug.40-Nov.41 with Schützen-Regiment 14 of the 5.Panzer-Division active/based in Rumania/Bulgaria/Greece/Yugoslavia and from Oct.41 onwards active in Middle Russia (Wjasma, Moscow). He was KIA (shot in the head) on 25.11.41 in Ognikowo.
