He volunteered the Kriegsmarine in 1939 and served Oct.40 with Navy Artillery replacements unit 6.Ersatz-Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung Emden; Nov.40-Sep.41 securing the coast in Holland with unit; 1942 when he stayed in Paris France (Pension Verdian) he was enlisted for the Army Artillery and served: Dec.42 with leichte Artillerie-Ersatz-Abteilung 33 in Homburg; Dec.42-Feb.43 with the marching unit of his replacements unit; Feb.-Apr.43 futher training with Artillerie-Ersatz-Regiment 33 in Homburg (?); May-Jun.43 with; Jun.-Jul.43 with 2./Artillerie-Regiment Sizilien of Division Sizilien based on Sicily; Jul.-Nov.43 with 3./Artillerie-Regiment(mot)33 of the 15.Panzer-Grenadier-Division active on Sicily (Enna, Nicosia-Leonforte, Aigira, Troina, Adrano, Messina) and Italy (Napels, Formia, Gaeta, Volturno, Garigliano, Monte Cassino). He was KIA on 21.11.43 when his gun got a direct hit during an assault. He died in a truck on the way to the dressing station. Nowadays buried at the war cemetery in Monte Cassino.
