He served: Feb.-May 1939 with Infanterie-Regiment 133 in Wels; Aug.39-Oct.40 with Infanterie-Regiment 486 of the 262.Infanterie-Division active in France (Maginot line) and active as occupation force in Poland; Oct.40-Nov.43 with Infanterie-Regiment 482 (Oct.42 renamed Grenadier-Regiment 482) also of the 262.Infanterie, occupation force in Poland, 1941-1943 active in Russia (Brody, Shitomir, Kiew, Brjansk, Jelez, Orel, Brjansk, Orscha); 262.Infanterie-Division was Nov.43 destroyed and remnants were combined under Korps-Abteilung D; Nov.43-Jul.44 with Grenadier-Regiment 462 (Regimentsgruppe 462) of Korps-Abteilung D active in Middle Russia (Smolensk, Witebsk); wounded by shrapnell on 17.7.44 and repatriated; till Nov.44 for recovery with Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 192 in Bautzen; from Nov.44 onwards as POW guard with Landesschützen-Bataillon 379 active in Maltheuren near Brüx (nowadays Most Czech Republic) under Kommandeur der Kriegsgefangenen IV.
