He served: Oct.36-Sep.37 with Schützen-Regiment 1 in Gera; Oct.37-Oct.39 with army upper command transport unit Kraftfahr-Kompanie des Oberbefehlshabers des (Ersatz-)Heeres; Nov.-Dec.39 with Schützen-Ersatz-Regiment 83 in Eberswalde; Mar.-Oct.40 with Schützen-Regiment 110 of the „Gespenster-Division“ (Ghost Division, very famous and succesfull division during the 1940’s battles in France) 11.Schützen-Brigade (Aug.40 renamed 11.Panzer-Division), 1940 active in the annexation of Denmark (Jutland), battles in Belgium and France (Cambrai, Arras, Desvres, Somme-Bresle and Bretagne; wounded in Incheville France on 11.6.40 when he was shot with three bullets through both upper legs; hospitalized in Brussel and Beelitz and for recovery attached to his replacements unit; Jun.41-Jan.42 with Landesschützen-Bataillon 595 home based in Neuhammer active securing transports to the eastern front; discharged 20.12.42 from military service, not suitable because of his medical condition.
