Discharged and called-up again in 1940 when he served: Apr.40-Mar.42 with Sanitäts-Staffel Reservelazarett Jena, the military hospital in Jena; Mar.-Dec.42 with Eisenbahn-Pionier-Regiment 3 active in Southern Russia (Charkow, Donez, Don); Dec.42-Mar.43 with railway pioneer unit Eisenbahn-Pionier-Regiment 6 also active in Southern Russia (Don, Donez); Mar.-Sep.43 with railway bridge construction unit Eisenbahnbrücken-Bau-Bataillon 12 also active in Southern Russia (Mius, Donez, Dnjepr); Sep.43-Feb.45 with Stab/Eisenbahn-Pionier-Brigade 1 active in the Ukraine; from Feb.45 onwards with General des Transportwesens Heeresgruppe Mitte.
