He served Nov.-Dec.40 with Inf.-Ers.-Btl.317, an infantry replacements unit based in Köln-Riehl, Dec.40-mid.41 he served a few months with Frontleitstelle Brüssel (in Belgium). A “Fontleitstelle” is an unit in charge of the location near the front where replacements, goods etc. arrived to be redirected to the frontline. Mid.41-mid.44 he served with Frontleitstelle 24 (till Jan.43 named Frontsammenstelle 24) of the 2nd Army (AOK2) active in Russia. The Frontleitstelle was based: 1941 Bobruisk, (Sep.41) Gomel and (Oct.41) in Orel where it stayed till May 43 when the unit went to Kursk. Oct.44 the unit went to Mielau. The secret name of this unit was “Ornat”. End.44-45 Karl was active with the 20.Panzer-Division. Several units where put in this Division during that time. Karl served with Panzer-Ersatz-Bataillon 92 and Sanitäts-Kompanie 92, active that time at Eastern-Prussia, Hungary and Schlesia.
