He served 1944 with 7./Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 59 of the 20.Panzer-Division active in Middle Russia (1941 Smolensk, Wjasma, Moscow; 1942 Gshatsk, Orel). During the battled at Gshatsk he got severely injured on 25.2.44 and was hospitalized in Luckau.
