He served: 1916 with Ersatz-Bataillon Infanterie-Regiment 65 in Köln-Riehl; Mar.-May1916 with Infanterie-Ersatz-Truppe Beverloo in Belgium; Jun.-Oct..1916 with Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 205 active in France (Verdun and Somme); got buried “verschüttet” in Ablaincourt by an artillery impact during the battles at the Somme and was hospitalized; 1917-1919 service with Infanterie-Regiment 24 of the 6.Infanterie-Division; discharged 31.1.1919. Called-up again in 1939 and served: Aug.39-Mar.40 with Landesschützen-Bataillon XIII/VI active in Poalnd; Mar.-Aug.40 with the new formed Infanterie-Regiment 659 “Landesschützen-Regiment Oberost” of the 386.Infanterie-Division based in germany; discharged Aug.40 and not called-up again.
