He served 1940-1942 as engineer on board of the Trossschiff (supply ship) Dithmarschen. 1940-1941 active in the Northsea for supplying the battle ships Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Admiral Hipper. 1942 active in thge Eastern sea together with the ships Eurosee, Adria and Südmeer for supplying fuel to ships at sea. Jan. 1945 he was missing in action at the french atlantic coast. Not listed nowadays as KIA so could have been taken POW.
