Mechanic born 1914 in Gotha. He served: Jan.-Apr,37 with II.Schiffsstammabteilung der Ostsee in Stralsund; Apr.-Oct.37 197 days on board of the torpedo boat Albatros of the 2.Torpedobootsflottille; Oct.37-Jan.38 with 5.Zerstörer-Division; Jan.-Feb.38 with navy school Marineschule Kiel; Feb.-Apr.38 again with the 5.Zerstörer-Division; Apr.-Aug.38 with construction course for destroyers Bautenlehrgang Zerstörer in Hamburg; Aug.-Dec.38 152 days on board of the destroyer Zerstörer Z16 „Friedrich Eckoldt“. Sep.39-Jan.40 he served 132 days on boiard of the V-108 of the 1.Vorpostenflottille, formed Oct.39 and employed small steamers operating in the western Baltic. 30.1.40 he was in Kiel discharged from military service because he was needed elsewhere „UK-Stellung“. Called-up again 1943 but was found temporarily unsuitable for military service. 1944 examined again and now found suitable and transferred to the Luftwaffe in the reserve.
Z16 Friedrich Eckoldt was a Type 1934A-class destroyer. The ship was ordered on 19 January 1935 and laid down at Blohm & Voss, Hamburg on 4 November 1935 as yard number B505. She was launched on 21 March 1937 and completed on 28 July 1938. The ship participated in the August 1938 Fleet Review as part of the 3rd Destroyer Division.
